    Sounds like everything was "preconfigured" by whoever you bought it from. Not necessarily helpful.

    Taking it back is probably your best bet at this point since it looks like you have several problems. They shouldn't charge you anything if it's a new computer, but who knows.

    Microsoft Security Essentials seems to be working for me as an antivirus and it's free from Microsoft so don't let them sell you an AV.

    Once you get it squared away, I recommend installing Opera and sticking with the stable version of Firefox rather than a beta.
