    HP MediaSmart Webcam not working

    Hi,

The software which was pre-installed on my laptop worked fine the first couple of times I used it, then started to play up sometimes by not opeing up at all. So I went to:
Software & Driver Downloads HP Pavilion dv6-2030sa Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Downloaded the HP MediaSmart Webcam driver/software. Now it opens up fine, but it says that the in-built webcam is not detected?

    Any advise?

    Thanks

Yes the webcam did show up in Device Manager, I un-installed it and refreshed, where it was re-installed. But, sadly, the program I have installed in my initial post still says the webcam is turned off?

    I found these instructions:

Considering that you are using the factory shipped software I.E. Quick play / Hp media Smart webcam...

    Try the following steps :-

First lets reinstall the webcam driver...

go to device manager > under imaging devices or HID devices you will find the webcam driver > right click and uninstall it.

Reinstall it from the recovery manager > advance options > Hardware driver installation.
you can also download the drivers from
    www.hp.com/support

Go to Device manager > click on the + sign beside Universal serial host controllers > right click and uninstall all SB root hubs.

Go to HP.com >> in the search bar type >
    sp42568
download and install the you cam software. It should resolve the issue.

However if you are using a messenger then try out with yahoo messenger. There are some messengers that do not work. For example :
    windows live messenger

    Hope this helps..

However, in my device manager I have Universal serial Bus controllers not Universal serial host controllers, I'm assuming that's different?

Removing a USB controller doesn't make sense if the webcam is built in, which I believe it is in your case.

Any help from HP support on this ??

Positive you have the latest driver / software ?? I may have asked that already.

Yes my webcam is in-built. Alot of the solutions I have found on the internet seem to want to remove the usb things like I said in a previous post. Also, this seems to be quite a common problem with HP laptops. I have updated my BIOS, webcam drivers/software etc. with no results.
I think I am going to try and contact HP to try and get a solution, if I get a reply/solution I will post the relevant information I get on here. :)

Still trying to find out why my webcam has stopped working, such as,
Fixing Webcam Problems in Windows 7 - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

But stumbled upon the fact that the webcam when in device manager/Imaging Devices/HP Webcam/Properties/Driver Details, that it has two driver files:

Is that normal? Or could this be causing a conflict?
