    System clean????

    Hi

I recently downloaded Winrar and ever since it was installed my computer went down hill. I tried to uninstall it but it is still present. Now most of my files will not open and nor does windows media player.

I am thinking of doind a system reformat, but need some advice on what to do. What i would like to do is to clean the whole system and start again, i have all the cds available and am able to back up my data.

    HELP PLEASEEEEE.

I would go with a Repair install.
    https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html

If you want a full install then I would go with this:
SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

The first repairs all the Windows registry.

The second is a total wipe just like a brand new hard drive and new OS install.

    Which is what you requested.

    Also Welcome to Sevenforums.

You should find the problem first or it may keep doing it!!!

    He didn't request that.
    I provided what was requested.

Apparently he would like to remove Winrar and fix the damage to his system.

Both will be accomplished with either of the above tutorials.

Well i tried this registry scanner before i did anything and it found like 1000+ registry errors and it would not fix unless i subscribe.

It automatically rebooted and now internet explorer does not open. I am off to buy a external hardrive to back up all the data.

Is the only thing i can do now a full install???

What registry scanner? We have a tutorial to use the built in version but it is free.
I'll find the link in a moment.
The pay registry scanners/repair are a waste of money. Some were good for XP.
Most make Windows 7 worse by removing the wrong items causing more problems.

    Option One in the tutorial.
This does not always work but many times it does. It will come to a point most likely that it will state it can't fix all the errors.
You will then run the repair again up to three times.
It usually takes up to three times to fix all errors if it can.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Also a repair install as I listed above will not lose your files, or photos etc.

    Do a Repair installation if:
    • A System Restore did not help fix your Windows 7.
    • There is no other easier option left that can fix your Windows 7.
    • You DO NOT want to do a Clean reinstall of Windows 7.
    • You DO want to preserve your user accounts, data, programs, and system drivers.

I would use that, but internet explorer on the affected computer does not work, am using my brothers laptop at the moment.

Recalling on what initally happened, i remember trying to delete winrar from the my computer and in the process deleted some other things which i thought were not needed like microsoft silverlight and others. i think this is the problem and now my computers brokern. .
