    question about windows installer

I keep getting these messages when I attempt to install software: "The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software?" Then when I hit yes and continue, "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."

The really strange part is that after getting that message when attempting to download and install Calibre(for example), I then saved the file directly to a USB drive and was able to install with no problems from there.

Incidentally, I have a HP 6210y (AMD Athlon 64 quad core and 6 Gb of memory and a 600Gb Western Digital hard drive with plenty of free space). The operating system is the 64-bit home premium edition and I also have norton utilities and norton internet security on the computer.

Does anyone have any ideas what is causing this and how to fix it? It is driving me nuts.

What's your account type? Tried 'Run as administrator' and completely disabling uac when? Also right click the downloaded file and go to it's properties>General. Click the Unlock/Unblock button if available at the bottom. Then try again.
