Windows 7: Nero C0overDesigner Win 7 64 bit

Thanks to both of you for your efforts!

I'm not sure if I've made this clear or not so just in case, here it is put another way. If it was clear, then I apologise for asking again.

I have the missing file (in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\Lib on the old drive. I also have the .exe file and other installation files on the old drive. I'm assuming when I did the original install that the advrcntr2.dll file was automatically inserted into the aforementioned folder by the installation process.

So to try to get the program to run on 64 bit Win 7, I copied all the files over from the old drive (XP 32 bit) to the new drive (Win 7 64 bit). When running the .exe file from the new drive, I get the message advrcntr2.dll missing even when I have this missing file in the same folder as all the other files that I have copied over.

This makes me think that when I did the original installation, the installation process must have put the advrcntr2.dll file into in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\ Lib. As I can't run the proper installation process because I threw away the disc (!), I need to try to insert the advrcntr2.dll file into wherever it would have been put if I could have run the installation process on the disc!

At least that is how I see it. I know it may be a guess as to where it might go and it might not work, but any more ideas very welcome!

I understand what it is you're trying to do. What I keep saying, and as you've found out yourself, is that the program isn't going to let you do it like that. A lot of programs won't let you just copy them over from one OS to another like that. You actually need to install the program from the disk or other legitimate means as the program will also need to write info to the registry. You doing a cut and paste job (copying) isn't putting the necessary information in the registry. There's also the matter of anti-piracy measures at work as well.

So in order for this to work…..

You’ll need to know where every file and folder goes (including hidden files. BTW there are files hidden even when you check the un-hide boxes) when moving from Windows XP 32-bit to the Windows 7 64-bit OS. These can be completely different locations since we're talking two completely different operating systems. In addition to that, you'll also need to know where all registry keys go as well. And the same rules apply - different locations for different operating systems.

Also, the fact that you have an .exe file means nothing as it sounds like it's just for starting the program, NOT installing the program! Which is what you'd need to do to get the program to properly work!

In addition to all of that, there's still the issue of compatibility - will the program work with Windows 7 64-bit?

I'd say that since you threw the disk away by accident but feel the program is that important to you, try to get another legitimate copy.

I hope this clarifies things.

Good luck.

OK thanks anyway. Hadn't thought about trying to get an original version of the disc. Will try eBay!

Good luck on that. Just make sure it's legit. Hate to pay for something that you can't activate.

Good luck with finding a disk.

Just to reassure you in case you might have thought that I have been trying to copy a "borrowed" disc. I can assure you that this is not the case and that it was indeed supplied bundled with the LG Lightscribe writer.

I just never thought I would need the disc again. And I've sold the LG writer and replaced it on my new build with an OEM Pioneer Blu Ray Lightscribe which didn't come with any software.

That might be another "catch" as it used to be, no sure about this now, that the bundled write software was married to the drive itself. In short, no drive, no software install. LG can give you a more definitive answer on that one though.

As for copying a "borrowed" disk, to be honest I never gave it a thought. I was however concerned with attempts to circumvent the anti-piracy measures though.

Anyways it's all good.

Peace

Hi
Well, all's well that ends well! Found the disc at the bottom of our rubbish bin, 24 hours before it is due to be emptied. Wife had thrown it away!

Installed onto Win 7 64 bit perfectly. As a matter of interest, the file I was missing has installed itself into C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Ahead\Lib, nearly the same as on Win XP after all that!

That may be true, but now you have the registry entries as well
