    Movie Inventory Software

I want a program that facilitates inventorying my movie collection, so that I don't have to look up and type in all of the details myself. There seems to be no end to this type of program, when I Googled, but to find one that is either free or cheap, is no small feat. Some use scanners, which might be good, except the additional cost, and some do an online lookup and download of info, but I'm not sure about the security and privacy.

I'm hoping that someone has personal experience along this line, and can cut my search short.

I Personally recommend Movie Inventory from Collectorz. You can purchase the software without the scanner or with. The scanner makes it incredibly easy to scan the bar codes on the Movies and puts them in the system Correctly.

I have used the program as i have around 350 DVD's and its a hassel trying to find out what i have and dont have. The Program allows you to type in keywords to find the movies. There is also ways to put in what shelf they're located on. Will also help you arrange then in alphabetical order if you choose to do so.

You dont need the scanner, i think now you can even use some Newer Phones to scan. It isnt exactly cheap but i highly recommend it.

Movie Inventory Software, catalog your movies automatically (for Windows & Mac OS X)

NOTE: IF someone else offers a better suggestion, i being a movie collector myself would be interested in hearing. Something Cheaper or Better.

Are you looking for something to gather the metadata and backdrops for your library?

These are what I use and it works great,

Yammm - Yet Another Media Meta Manager

And this to set it up in the library,

    Media Center- Setup Movie Library

Meta data...that is one of those terms that I only have a vague understanding of the definition. It sounds like it is only the most basic information. I want something that gives pretty comprehensive info about each movie...title, cast, audio/video data, special features, etc.

I want this inventory for both my personal use and possibly for insurance purposes.

That was the first program that I found Googling. It may be very good, but when I attempted to download the trial, it wanted me to select one of a number of other steps, which would mean giving my personal information to someone elsewhere. It's bad enough to do this when registering a program, not just for a trial.

Meta Data is what you are talking about above.

This is where yammm gets its info TMDb — The open movie database

as for the insurance purposes, maybe you should go with something like what TonyTiger2004 suggested.

I found a different download link on their page, that worked in the normal way, so I got it installed, but I was hoping that in addition to manual entry and scanning, I could point it to the location on the PC where I have many of my collection encoded, and that it would search the directory and sub-directories for the titles. If it can do that, I failed to find it.

I did find the way to have it search the PC, and it does seem to work well, except that the number of movies that it found were less than I have in the directory that it searched. I have not yet figured which movies were skipped, therefore can't guess as to the reason.
