    Hello URTHJ

As a workaround for you problem with the scanning software, you may want to have a look at a PDF print driver It would make the process into a two part one but would arrive at the same place :)

One I have used in Windows Seven is PDFCreator

Windows 7 Beta dua boot with Vista Home Premium

I had this problem with my Officejet 6310 but was abe to install today. I ran in compatibility mode for VISTA and ran as administrator. Finally, I chose custom installation and unchecked all boxes. My connection is a network ethernet to route - printer was detected and program ran to completion. I can scan into almost any program except Windows Fax and Scan which, as I understand it, need a WIA scanner driver, not a Twain driver which the HP uses.

I tried installing from the HP CD using Vista compatability, but still get stuck at step 5/8, after "device detected." It sits there with the message "Wait for device setup to finish." After more than 10 minutes, I'll (finally) get a message "Device setup has failed to complete."

By downloading the files manually, I'm able to install on my desktop "hpqscnvw.exe", which will successfully start "hp scanning." But its save options are limites to "bmp", "tif" and "jpg", which fails to give me the save to "pdf" that I could gain in Vista-which is the file format I'm really looking for....
I'm having the exact same problem with my OfficeJet. And for some reason, the colors on any scans I do are way too washed out. (The same scanner has perfect color when I connect it to an XP system.) Not sure if it's the lack of a full install on W7 or if it has to do with the stock W7 drivers. Any ideas?

    Works in Vista Compatibility

I copied all the contents of the Vista installation CD onto my HDD (not sure if it was necessary, but I wasn't seeing the compatibility tab otherwise). I tagged the three install files in the main directory to run in Vista compatibility mode and also for S&Gs clicked "run as administrator".

My problem was that in the step where the installation was trying to install the device (after finding it) it would fail (the screen with the router, monitors, and printer icons/clip-art).

Installation and network scanning are working as they should. I need to repeat this for my other windows 7 machine. To make it easier on myself I'll just share the folder over the network.

    officejet 6310 and windows 7

I have the officejet 6310 and have tried installing on my laptop which I just installed the Windows 7 evaluation. During the install it asks to connect, i seleted usb and it continued. Once it got to 6/8 it stops. At that point is says "Device not detected" and not all prgrams install. I am trying to get the HP Solution center to work but can not. I have tried the compatibilty on vista and xp and have run in Administator mode but no luck.

I'm not sure if this helps but I had a similiar problem installing the HP update for my Photosmart 7960 on Win 7 Pro. Basically the installer only detects Vista.

The way around it was I opened the executable using 7-Zip and extracted all the contents. I then found the autorun.inf file and found the line which read'
    'os_list=600,600_64'
    This was then changed to:
'os_list=600,600_64,601,601_64' so it would recognise Windows 6.0 (Vista) and 6.1 (7)
The setup file was then run in Vista compatibility mode and the driver then installed perfectly with no issues enabling me to duplex print again.

Hopefully this method might work for you as well.

Windows 7 Ultimate RTM 32 bit

Regarding the HP 6310... HP has new Vista AIO download (9-03-09) that I used on two Windows 7 RTM 32 bit machines. All functions installed properly and both the printer and fax show under devices and printers. I did run the install as local admin and in vista sp2 compatibility mode. The printer is connected with the network port.

The only issue is that when windows 7 starts, it tries to install a driver for the 6310, that takes a minute or two before it fails, then all seems fine. The windows update also will find a driver for the hp 6310, and that install fails too. I just hid the update and deal with the device drive install error as everything else appears to work fine.

One thing to try with the USB connection is to not have the printer connected during the installation, even when prompted. It should give you an option to continue the install.

Windows 7, Build 7000, installed without a hitch,
When I try to install the Vista software from HP's disc, it fails after a couple of minutes (and after plugging in the USB cable, which it recognizes). This means I don't have the HP scanning software installed. Anyone else with this problem--or, better yet, with a suggested fix!
The failure is due to an incomplete installation. Perform the following tasks:
    1. Disconnect the scanner from your system.
    2. Remove/uninstall all HP scan software.
    3. Leave the drivers in place.
    4. Insert the HP scan software disc.
    5. Do not use in autorun
    6. Locate the setup.exe file on the disk.
    7. Hilite the setup file and set compatability to vista/ run as administrator.
    8. Install the scanner software.
    9. The system will prompt you to connect the scanner to your system
    10. Do so connect.
Let us know how it went.

    Same issue

Ok I had the same issue....I was running my hp deskjet via wireless and it would not work after installing Windows 7. I contacted HP and they had me hook up via USB for the time being and use the windows drivers to operate the printer. I can print and scan but cannot scan into a pdf which I do a lot. They indicated that they will have a fix to allow Windows fax and scan to scan into pdf in the next week or so. The full HP driver and software package won't be out until next year to support all the features of the deskjet under Windows 7. I think HP dropped the ball on this one big time.

For now I am stuck with a usb cable and scanning docs in Windows Fax and Scan and then converting them to pdf files.
