    Actually, there have been several links of places that Microsoft has the .iso files available for download. If you search around here, you'll find the links. I'm also not talking about public perception, either. If you are ever chatting with anyone from Microsoft or their support resources, they actually suggest borrowing the media from friends.

    You just need to apply some actual, practical knowledge, and not just believe everything you hear or read on the disc itself.

    Microsoft themselves described the steps on performing a clean install using an upgrade disc. As long as you aren't pirating the license or cracking the activation, they don't care.
