    Java 6 Update 24 Doesn't Install

    Hey SF,

I have Java 6 Update 23 installed. This is what I have noticed: even Java Update Scheduler (jusched.exe) is on my startup programs and running processes it doesn't check for updates, it doesn't notify of new updates as if it's just there as a process doing nothing at all.

I have installed KCsoftwares Software Update Monitor (SUMo), and it has detected that there's this new Java 6 Update 24 but I uninstalled SUMo because it doesn't have this auto update feature like Secunia.

So here comes Secunia PSI, it detected the obsolete Java and it started to auto update but the installation froze (I was stuck at some point that it didn't install).

Here comes manual updating. I downloaded the latest Java from the site but none of the given installers ran. There are 4 installers for Java 6 U24 here in my PC (2 chrome installers, and 1 Java i5 bla bla bla and 1 jpxinstall.exe and none of them ran. I booted into Safe Mode but still none of the installers ran.

Uninstalled the old Java 6 U23 and disabled all Firefox extensions. I also have noticed that I have 3 Java addons: Java 6 U21, Java 6 U22 and Java 6 U23.
    But again, it won't run!

    I'm loosing hope.

Have you tried JavaRa? Give it a shot and see whether it helps. ( Long back I had used it to remove the older versions and all junk built up by JRE)

I have downloaded JavaRa. Their updater doesn't update my Java, and their remover doesn't remove my Java. Oh well, I'll just stick to Update 23. What's important is that I have Java on my PC.

Think the best bet is to uninstall any javas, and then search for any and all java references in folders and registry and delete them with CCleaner and/or manually searching. Reboot and try installing again. I also could not install update 24 no matter what when it came out a while back. Never had any problem installing them before until 24 for some reason. Didn't bother going through deleting all the references as I clean installed Win 7 SP1 integrated soon after that time anyway, and it installed without problem after that.

Awhile back? I checked my system and it shows update 24 was installed on 27 May 2010. When did you try to update to 24? Is it after SP1?

I am just trying to decipher whether updating it to 24 after autoupdate to SP1 is causing this anamoly.

Uninstalled with Revo, ran CCleaner, ran Auslogics, deleted 'JreMetrics' on HKLM folder and rebooted. Unfortunately, nothing. This has something to do with SP1.

And OMG, May 27, 2010? When will they release a new Java (JRE 7)? Once SP2 has been released, or once Windows 8 has gone beta?

My last resort would be downloading the pre-release JRE 7.

PROBLEM SOLVED. Installed Java 7 Pre-Release.
That Java 6 Update 24 is incompatible with SP1.

According to the Java website, 6 - 24 was released on or about Feb 16, 2011 and is still the most current version being offered. Where did you find Java 7?

And Windows 7 SP1 was released on the 22nd of February. They should have published the update AFTER SP1, and we all know that after installing SP1, it could break programs or programs before SP1 could be incompatible.

I searched in Google with the keywords "Java beta" and the first search result takes me to the Java Early Access Downloads page. I clicked on "Download" beside "JDK 7 Preview Release", accepted the license agreement and under "JRE", I downloaded the x86/32-bit/default .EXE for Windows. The JRE size is 18.5 MB while JDK, ~90 MB
