My problem exists during any software, not just MS stuff. It is quite annoying to say the least. Thx again tho!

It sounds to me that you have a registry problem SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker run this and see if any errors show up then try a registry repair

Well running "scannow" turned my computer into rubbish. I had to reformat and begin again...and when I did, it still has the issue of not allowing programs to create links in start menu. I have googled everything I can think of and the problem must not be common because I am unable to find an answer. Help Please!

Turned my computer into rubbish. What do you mean by this. Your spec say 1024 meg's of ram. Windows 7/64 needs more to work it's best. Please type in your next post exactly the way you typed in scannow into your computer to run it.

I finally found a link that fixed my problem http://www.winhelponline.com/fileasso/lnkfix_vista.zip and now is all well in rad's world! Thx to all that tried to help. Maybe someone else can use this link to help with this or other OS problems. This was the link I went to to fix my .lnk problem, but there are a number of other extensions that might help someone. File Extension .LNK Details Again...THX to all of you!
