I've been using 7.1 for awhile. I downloaded and installed 7.3 today. Only thing I can't figure out is in the change log it says:

08 April 2011 Version 7.3 Disk Check is now divided into two parts, normal disk check and full disk check.

I don't see any means to run either or setting for force it to one type or the other. Just wondering if anyone knows exactly what's up with that.

should I use this over Defraggler? I have windows 7 x64. The part that says "native support for 64bit windows" makes me want to change

Thanks. I also got the latest Auslogics portable defrag and it has a right click chkdsk with and without file system fix. I thought that's what they were talking about. Now I get it. :)

Does Defraggler does the job for you? If it does, i suggest you to stick with it. But if you want to experiment / do tests with other defrag programs, it's your choice. ;)

use diskeeper or defraggler if you just want to defrag specific files/folders/directories.

I've switched to Puran, largely because of the boot-time defrag and the intelligent optimizer which can return some speed to older HD's.

I also like the way it combines Disk Check with Boot-time Defrag.

On a 5400rpm HD with a 3 minute boot traced to slow HD and fragmentation, Chkdsk with boot-time Defrag reduced boot time in half, finding many errors, moving system files, and eliminating 16% fragmentation.

Puran also has Explorer integration. I just right clicked my Download folder and defragged it in a few seconds. (Of course it helps that I just defragged the entire drive yesterday) :)

Miles, what exactly does the Intelligent Optimizer do? It says it positions the files for optimum seeks, but then another phase of the defrag moves them all contiguously. I'd like to be able to explain exactly what it does that's different or new.

It claims to put more frequently used files toward the outer edge of the disk in order of the access stats. I wonder how well it works on my systems because I always disable NTFS file last accessed time tracking to reduce the number of disk accesses. I can visibly see the difference on my machines. The access light blinks less and the machine is a bit spiffier. But that's just my preference.

The outer edge is supposedly faster on most HD. So it tries to push everything toward the outer edge. PIOZR would have to do with the order of the files. Most used closest to the edge. For me directory and boot file optimization probably has more effect because they're not governed by NTFS file access tracking.

I only defrag with those options about once or twice a week. The rest of the time I do a quickie with all options off. Then again I run with my system disk at over 80% space free. Defrags are quick when you have all that free space to work with. Once a week or so I clean off as much crap as I can to get even more free space. Then I defrag with those options on(the top 4 check boxes in the list.) But that's only for the system drive. For my drives in docking stations the only opt I ever use is the Fill Gaps option.

Works for me but eveyone has slightly different usage patterns and space requirements.

I select boot time chkdisk, defrag then shutdown.

May be a bug in build. Can you use previous version? If not email Puran as they are responsive in time.
 
I did, it worked for awhile then stopped.
