problem with vlc player

    problem with vlc player


    this is a new problem encountered by me,,, i don't know what settings i have changed that vlc is trying to open every thing,,, every single desktop icon is changed to vlcs one.... every exe file is now opened by vlc... i tried to reinstall it by recommend setting,,, by minimum setting but all in vain,,, later i tried to clean all the registry related to it using revo installer but in vain any one pls help


    this problem corrects up when i uninstall the vlc,,, but it is such a user friendly and good player that i don't want to leave using it,,, please help

    That is not a VLC fault. You have somehow accidentally changed your default file type associations.

    Try this tutorial;

    You say the problem goes away when you uninstall VLC?

    Then what you need to do is uninstall VLC. Do the tutorial, and then re-install VLC. Taking care to check the correct file associations.

    but i have done custom install and unchecked all the extension except the audio and video but still its trying to open up every thing,,,, many a time i have uninstalled it and am done with all the possible way,,,, the problem started when one of my friend has changed some settings.....
    cant i so some thing that will delete the preferences already saved o my computer of vlc and which is not deleted by default when i uninstall the program.


    please mike help!!!

    Have you done what I suggested? Uninstall VLC. Do the tutorial to restore default file associations, then re-install VLC.

    I would also suggest you download the VLC package again, before you install it.

    Mike is correct is giving this solution.

    You will need to download the registry settings for both .EXE and .LNK to be sure that both types of desktop shortcut are taken care of.

    yea i have done i have uninstalled vlc done the tutorial for .exe type of file... then i have again installed vlc again but its of no use... actually it is opening the google chrome and my other browsers are also opening with vlc.. i have to send you these messages by my friends computer


    i am just doing lnk wait i will tell you what happens in a sec
