    Can't Install any Adobe Updates?!

    Hello all, hope everybody is having a good day. I have searched microsoft.com and google, as well as adobe.com and java.com for answers to my problem, but have come up empty handed. I'm willing to bet somebody here can help me though!

    I am on a Compaq Presario CQ62, 64 bit Windows 7, Celeron processor. Yeah, it was a walmart special, but it's treated me decent until the past month and a half.

    My problem is that every time I try to install any java or Adobe update, it gives me an error and says Error 1606: Could not access network location %APPDATA%\. If I'm not mistaken...a network would mean that this computer was part of a network, but it is not. It is a stand alone PC connected directly to the Internet. I have tried every different combination of methods to download and install them, and the error is always the same. I have changed where I download the file to, I have ran the update files as administrator, I have tried both "run" and "save" options with 2 different browsers.

    I'm sure I'm not the only one who has experienced this problem, and hopefully somebody can help me out soon. The updates for java and adobe reader are more than a month and a half behind, and it is beginning to cause problems with web browsing.

    If I can provide any more information that would assist in correcting this problem, please let me know.

    First of all, check that malware is not affecting your system. Download the free version of this;

    Malwarebytes

    and run a FULL scan after updating the database.

    If it finds anything post the log here, and we can move on.

    Your firewall might be blocking you. Does this work for you.

    Ok, I will let Malwarebytes give it a scan as well, however I'm fairly sure I'm virus-free. I have had strong protection since I purchased this thing, with Norton Internet Security for 3 months, then immediately after, installed avast and had it until now.

    It will probably be a while before the complete scan is finished, this PC wasn't built for much speed lol. I will post any findings I get when I get them.

    OK. Take your time. Hopefully you have no malware, but in cases like this I like to make sure first, because otherwise one can waste a great deal of time and effort on various remedies that will never work if malware is causing the problem(s).

    I will try this as soon as malwarebytes finishes scanning. Computer has trouble multi-tasking. Might not agree with trying to install a program while scanning for viruses. It's already lagging a lot just to type this reply lol.

    Please only try one thing at a time. It is entirely possible that your firewall is the problem, but wait until we are certain that malware is not causing it before you make any adjustments.

    Windows Firewall. I have checked the settings as admin and everything checks out. There aren't any rules in place that would block java or adobe.
