    Win7 and Symantec

    Hi,
I upgraded my laptop from Vista Business to Windows 7 Ultimate x86 7264 (hopefully that's a stable release).

It seems that Symantic Endpoint Protection 11 is not compatible with Windows 7. How is your experience?

    Cheers

With Windows 7 you can use NIS 2010 its beta and compatible with Windows 7 or KIS 2010 which is stable release and compatible with Windows 7.

I'm using 7600.16385 (en) and Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.4202.75 ... it appears to work fine except that from time to time you get to encounter a "Driver blocked due to compatibility issues" message. It appears that COH_mon service failed to load. Has anyone encountered the same?

I have not run EP on W7, but I have on SBS 2003, and some XP client machones. COH_mon service failed to load, that is the service that EP needs in order to run the scans. Look in your event viewer, and you should see an entry for it. A good way to test the service, start a manual scan and see if it bombs out, if it does, go immediately to the event viewer, and you should see a related entry that corresponds to the same time you trued to run the scan. Maybe you can try removing EP, then reinstall in vista compatability mode. Hope that helps.

    Symantec's compatibility issue known.

Symantec even had temporary trial versions of all their software to make it work with WIN7 while it wasn't RTM.

This meant that for that period I used the trial instead of my subscription version.

Today I saw that for some of their program's like Antivirus 2009 and Internet Security 2009 the Win7 compatibility updates are available through LiveUpdate, so I will be installing my subscription product again.

For the software you mentioned I haven't checked, but you could go to the Norton website and check it out.

    good luck.

well, I tried to manually scan and see if the message will pop up... but it doesn't. In my case, it appears at random ... I just can't figure out first what triggers it. Although checking the Network Threat Protection Traffic Log, I can see a bunch of blocked Outgoing Actions which I don't know what. This is a fresh install W7 and SEP.

Symantec is still fully testing builds of SEP to work on W7 - these days only small numbers of people are having issues, but it is still significant enough that they have not released the final product.

Thus far, in beta testing SEP, I have found a similar driver blocked error along with other minor incompatibilities - unfortunately, I am not allowed to go into more detail at this time.

Rest assured, SEP will work on W7 - and the way it is looking it is going to be released pretty soon....
