Java...What version?

I didn't realize it but there are several versions of java out there, Sun or Oracle, which is the real one and which is best for Win 7?

Java Add on question using IE9 and Version 6 update 30
Just downloaded and installed version 6 update 30 on two win 7 machines (one pro and one home premium) I now have an additional java add on one that points to ssv.dll and one that points to jp2ssv.dll Java test fine and I have no errors, just wonder if the "two" add ons are "normal" Thanks...

New Java version available - 6 update 24 Released
Just installed Java 6 build 24 (6.0.240) and it seems to resolve the problem with Java sites crashing IE9 RC1. I've removed the previously added sites from the compatability mode settings and they all seem to be working fine in native browser mode.

I've been alerted about the newest version of Java.. on the laptop.. I keep hearing Java is difficult to un-install ( old version )..on Windows 7.. shall I try to un-install it.. I need to install the new version. On XP I would go to the Control Panel and un-install all versions.. and such...
