newly installed prog. not in start menu

Hello everybody

Since 2 weeks I have a weird problem with my windows 7. The newly installed programs do not show up in the start menu, however when I type the program's name in "search programs and files" box, it turns out to be right there (see attached screenshot).

Also there seems to be a problem with file association in newly installed programs. For example new matlab installation have the same problem as above plus .m files are not associated.

Does any one know why is it happening? Please help, this is highly annoying

I can set file association via file properties or "open with" and then choose the program, but still very annoying, especially while installing program like xnview where you have to set association for multiple graphic file extensions

items not showing up in the start menu

The problem is with a "privacy setting" for the start menu.

1. Right click on the Orb (the start button) on the bottom left of your dsesktop.
2. Select properties.
3. Select the start menu tab.
4. Under the privacy section you will find only two items. make sure both are checked. BADAM! all fixed.

You can dink around with other settings, like how many recent programs to display, etc..... ENJOY!
