Windows 7: Sorting Files not working properly

Sorting Files not working properly

When importing files from a memory stick the files won't sort into date order, all the files already in the folder sort into date order but the new ones just stay at the bottom(top) when clicking sort and are ignored in the sort process!! I can manually move them to where they should be but with 2000+ photos thats not time I have

Even putting the files into their own folder to sort, they stay in the original order imported from the memory stick.

I thought it was the memory stick so have tried 4 different makes but the same thing happens.

I had edited the registry to be able to move the files manually but this doesn't affect the sorting. (I went back with the backup registry just to be sure my edit had not messed up sorting but it happens anyway) I can reproduce on another windows 7 machine but not on Vista or XP

Hope some can help

Welcome to the forum, SummermoonUK.

I have the same problem, and I think the reason is that when one transfers the files from the memory stick to the hard drive, the system replaces the original date of the file with the transfer date. So the transfer date actually becomes the date of the file. I too would love to find a way to change that, because it's very annoying!!!

Are you using vista or Win7? I could do it in Vista but not in Win7. With a registry hack I can manually sort the files but it takes too long.

Put the following in a reg file then open My computer and close it then log off and back on.

Be sure to back up the registry before hand just to be safe.
