Pretty much. In my experience WinPatrol usually reveals more startup items than MSconfig, and taken with it's other features has always one out against other software I've tried.

Thanks OakenG,

have downloaded W.Patrol ... did you see the list JaidynM posted? ...getting extensive isn't it,
however as far as i'm aware W.Patrol has been around for some time and I like programs which
have matured & been tweaked & attained several generations.

btw - like yr signature!

Thanks nithig.

I had a quick look at the link JaidynM posted, and have been to this site a few times in the past. Trouble I find is that many of the programs listed are not direct alternatives, merely similar in one way or another. Like you I prefer programs which have some history, especially where stability and support are concerned. WinPatrol developer Bill Pytlovany will always take the time to reply to support emails and is very helpful.

Once you rid everything in msconfig>Startup except AV and gadgets, confirm they don't sneak back in after restarts.

Then go to msconfig>Services, Hide All MS Services, see what is running without your knowledge and turn it off in its Program preferences, or uninstall it.

Anything good or bad to say about, Soluto?
Soluto – Anti-Frustration Software The developers claim this program can shave massive time off your boot-up. Has anyone tried it? :geek:
After reading several comments endorsing this program, I decided to give it a try. I'm not fond of the idea that it transmits data online elsewhere for analysis, but I didn't read that until I had installed it. Therefore, since I already have it, it seemed prudent to give it a try anyway. The...
