Soluto - what do you reckon?

Downloaded Soluto and have used it to remove a small number of unnecessary programs from startup but .... it's just a feeling really but there's something about Soluto which is odd. Anyway never mind me, what are your thoughts on Soluto.

If I remove it (as I might) then I can use mdconfig/Startup...but that doesn't list all the programs listed by Soluto (thinking of the unnecessary ones here) so where can the entire list be found?

Mike Lin's handy little tool is good ... it shows anything trying to get into startup and also allows easy removal. For d/load goto: Mike Lin's Home Page

I have used it but didn't like the fact that it poped up everytime I started the computer. As far as I know, the program is safe. But, If you uninstall it, then all the changes you made with it will go back to the way they were before installation.

    Hi,

Soluto is a great program for finding out what is loading during boot-up. I use it to do just that, but if I want to follow its suggestions, I do it manually through MSCONFIG. That way I can uninstall it, without it reverting/managing my changes.

Apart from that, I think its a fantastic utility.

    Hi,

For those, I manually uninstall the programs if I need to. In my case, I found most of Soluto's suggestions were pertaining to services/startups, that I can control in MSCONFIG.

I've used Soluto a few times to get startup information though found it adds up to 7-8 seconds itself.

Whereas WinPatrol adds just over a second, and is especially useful for custom-delaying startups which can be used to speed up boot time quite nicely.

Is this program similar to CCleaner?

Not especially. While CCleaner has a basic StartUp tool, Soluto provides more in depth information and options to remove from boot, pause (set to manual) or delay. The latter is similar to Windows 7 services 'Automatic Delayed' mode. Soluto now includes a new crash data feature, though I've not used this version as yet.

    Thanks OakenG.
I used to have Win Patrol on the old desk top (XP Pro ...which still works faultlessly!)
but haven't loaded in to the laptop & can't quite recall what it's capability is.
Am I to understand you can do the same thing with Win Patrol (excluding the crash report recently introduced) as is done by Soluto?
If so I know what will be done .... pretty much as you have.

Hi JaidynM - thank for coming into the discussion and for reminding us about CCleaner -
