    winrar "total path and filename length must not exceed 260 characters


    Is there an easy way round this? I am using Win 7 ultimate 64 bit.

    I sorted it.the destiatio path was on my nas drive in a deep subfolder. solution dragged winrar contents on to root c:\ instead.

    If it's using the Ansi file APIs in Windows they're still limited to 260 total path length. I just looked on the site and it mentions Unicode but no mention of file name length. Some things you just have to use the old Ansi APIs or the programming gets really messy.

I occasionally encounter problems when copying files from the server at work onto a backup drive where it says that it can't copy the file due to the name being too long. I've done some research and I'm aware that the problem is being caused by Win 7's limit of 260 characters on the total path...
