Should I upgrade to Windows Live Messenger 2011?

I've been sticking with 2009 up until now, how is it?

I am not a user of either application but would suggest that just the security aspects of the two would make the upgrade desirable.

Times move on and an application from two years ago will be vulnerable to "advances" in malware that can attack the application, this should of course be protected by a current AV but the basic design of the program could still lead to issues.

As for usability pros & cons, I will leave this to those who use the application

I'll will personally say no. I'm still with the 2009. I don't that new one, because you can't set your Nickname, are showed just with Name and Surname. All that sync. with social networks and etc. no msn plus, and few other things that are not so important.

Been using the 2011 version since it was first released, and I really like it. Like StalkeR said, msn plus is no longer compatible and you can no longer edit your display name. But unless you're incredibly reliant on msn plus scripts and its ability to see coloured display names, 2011 is a good upgrade. It feels very smooth to me compared to the old version, and you learn to live without the use of fancy display names.

Also, on 2011, when you edit your background theme to a custom photo, wlm intelligently chooses a resolution depending on the size of your window to prevent pixelated backgrounds (not sure if everyone had this problem for 2009, but I sure did and it was annoying to see pixelated backgrounds even with high res photos).

overall, i think 2011 is a good upgrade from 2009. Btw, the new integration of facebook, youtube, and other sites are a little useless most times, but at least you're not forced to use them. You can use the classic msn view which doesn't show you updates from ur social site accounts.
