    Revo Uninstaller Pro - How did this happen?


    I have been using Revo Uninstaller Pro for about six months. I have always run it from a Desktop Shortcut.

    Tonight I decided to take a look at the Windows 7 "Control Panel" on one of my W7 SP1 x64 computers. Before tonight I had always thought the "Control Panel" was only for Windows OS programs and/or services. (see comment below regarding Flash Player)

    Needless to say I was a bit surprised when I saw Revo Uninstaller Pro sandwiched between "RemoteApp and Desktop Connections" and "Sound".

    Is this by agreement between Microsoft and VS Revo Group?

    I also noticed that "Flash Player 32-bit" is listed in the Control Panel, but not the "Flash Player 64-bit" even though I have a x64 computer with "Flash Player 64-bit" installed along with "Flash Player 32-bit".

    I can kind of understand why Flash Player may be on the "Control Panel" given the tight connection between Flash Player and Windows IE but the Revo Uninstaller Pro that just seems strange.

    Anyone have any ideas about?

    1. Why Revo Uninstaller Pro is listed on the Control Panel?
    2. Why Flash Player is listed on the Control Panel but only the 32-bit version even though I have both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions on my X64 computers?



    Not that I am complaining since Revo Uninstaller Pro will run from the Control Panel so no harm no foul as far as I can tell. The Flash Player choice on the Control Panel opens to the Flash Player "Settings" GUI.

    There are a number of programs which do this. In addition to the Windows stuff I have Revo Pro, Flash Player (32-Bit), Java, and Ti Device Preferences (for my Ti-84+ calculator). In a way, I'd just as soon they weren't there. Guess it's up to the way the program's installer was written. None of them have ever caused me any problem, but in years past they occasionally didn't do a good job of going away if the program was uninstalled. On the other hand, Revo's deep registry scan pretty much takes care of that if any of them did. :)

    Every control panel icon has a corresponding .cpl file (in c:\windows\system32), removing that file should remove the icon. Here are a dozen ways of going about it.
