    Programs starting as "Suspended"

    Hello,

I am currently running Win7 Home Premium on a custom rig I built for gaming, and have been running it for a few months no problem until now.

A few weeks ago after a startup I realized that any time I started to run a program, the program would not start. I would click on the application, my cursor would get the loading circle, then the program simply would not open. Shortcuts, taskbar, start menu, even trying to boot them through console would not work. The only applications I can start are McAfee, IE8, and most admin and windows tools. Anything else just wont start. I opened the task manager and saw that the programs were running as suspended, and the only way to get them to work was to right click them and hit continue.

I ran McAfee, no viruses detected. I ran Disk check and mem check, no errors detected on either. At first the problem would happen only one out of 10 or so startups, now it occurs every startup. Doing a system restore back to a point before a windows update seemed to fix it, until my system crashed after doing that and now its every startup again.

I would at all costs like a way to resolve this issue without needing a fresh reinstallation (though it seems that is the only solution), as I currently have no means to backup some important stuff I have on my computer .

Any help is greatly appretiated in advance.

    Hi

    Hey,

I know this response isn't exactly technical. But I have recently be suffering from this exact same problem and have found that the solution in my case is to clear out all the dust and dirt from within my PC case, and believe me there was a lot!

Good luck in finding a solution and please send me what ever information you find, incase there are other fixes!

hi benjamin! i thought that i was alone in the sea whith this problem, i found a post that talk about this problem, but there was no reponse. i´m fighting with this problem along 2 months. and nobody seems to have this problems.
i tell you what i found about this problem

only happens when the system is connected on internet.
i thought, like you, that an update was cause of the problem but i cancel all updates after restore the system and still occasionally happens.
discard viruses and troyans because when problem happens there is no internet activity and is weird that a virus no connect to the web.
i noticed that sometimes the is no problem after a system restart. all programs starts whitout problems .

is rare that when renew the program that start as suspended in task manager, a message pop says that a user suspended the task
i hope that the microsoft people give us a solution.
i apologise about mi english. i learn it playing video games!

I have the exact same problem.

At the moment I can launch resmon and see the applications as 'suspended' in the processes list.
You can for the apps to run by right clicking on the process and clicking 'resume process'

    Full virus check - normal...

    Why is this happening?

I guess it got something to do with the OS. Try upgrading to a higher version of your Windows 7.

I'm sorry, but the above advice is ridiculous.
'Try upgrading to a higher version of the os'
    ?

Sorry, dothackjhe, but this is not very useful, nor will it solve the problem.

The issue appears to mostly affect 32bit programmes, suggesting interference with the 32 bit emulation in win 7.

I have found an application in my startup config called Wlx.exe (check with MSCONFIG). I suspect this is a virus and will update and scan later

    -I'll keep you posted.

Haha, I guess I'm not really good at this OS stuff yet. It's just a suggestion anyway.

This problem does not appear to be a virus - full Kaspersky scan is normal.

    This thread discusses the issue.
It may be a virtual machine problem...

    A Coincidence?

    Hello Ben.

I just encountered this exact same problem this morning, but didn't find a possible solution until a moment ago.

I booted into safe mode and launched a browser. I tried all the ones installed - Safari, FF, IE, Chrome - they all opened properly.

For whatever reason, I restarted the computer again and everything "seems" back to normal.

Coincidence? I have no idea, but I am able to access mail, browse pages, even load a game again without having to resume the application.

If you can, perhaps boot into safe mode and try to launch a browser, close it and reopen. See if this helps.

    Pat.
