    Sony Vaio BIOS Update

    Hey,
I just got myself a Viao last week and it came loaded with a whole ton of bloatware. As I have done with any other computer I've had, I did a fresh install of Windows and I'm slowly reinstalling everything. Sadly, Sony is cheap and included nothing with the laptop but a box and a 'quick guide' so everything is online. I have installed all the online software minus the bloatware garbage.

Just this morning I came across a pop up that occurs every three seconds telling my my battery is not installed correctly or is incompatable and has forced me to use my portable computer without a battery.

I'm 100% sure there is nothing wrong with the battery because it was working just fine for the last two weeks and this problem has only occured today. After a bit of research I learned that the clean install may have affected my BIOS. There is no available BIOS in the Sony software package for my computer online.

    Model number: VPCYB13KD (Canada)
    BIOS: InsydeH2O R0160Z7

I was wondering if anyone knew where to find the correct BIOS for this laptop or if there is a different way to fix my problem.
    Thanks

You may have been considering it bloatware, but the
    Original - Sony® Notebook Utilities

    Contains battery support in it.

This utility installs the originally shipped versions of the following Sony Notebook Utilities:
    • Battery Checker 4.3.0.05310
    • Setting Utility Series 5.3.0.10240
    • VAIO® Event Service 5.3.0.05310
    • VAIO Control Center 4.3.0.05310
hopefully it'll let you choose which components of it you want when you install it as the other items do sound like bloat.

Sadly I've reinstalled that software several times. I believe my issues actually started just after I installed that specific package.

    1) A clean install does not affect the bios. The bios can be modified only by flashing it with a manufacturer specific utility. Click Start button, type msinfo32 in the run box, hit Enter. Note down the details of the installed bios and compare with the latest available for your model on the sony website. If a newer one is available, you can consider updating.

    2) The battery problem appears to be common and the result of a software conflict. See here how to resolve.

The installed battery may not be properly connected to the computer or may not be compatible with the computer error message sony vaio
