    Hi wicken,
After doing a clean install, add all updates, I install Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - DirectX End-User Runtime . If it fails, I start afresh. Running a System File Check might help.

Sounds about right. The web installer has always been hit and miss as to whether it would actually work or not for a lot of people. No idea why it works for some and not others. I've had it where one time it won't work and then the next time months/whenever later it does.

The full redistributable on the other hand from what I can see always works. One reason when I link to it I always link to the redistributable instead of the web installer. That and for most it is the first time running it on a clean Windows install, so there isn't much to be saved in using the web installer anyway (and the full is less than a 100MB download).
