Using FRAPS: How many FPS should I be getting?

on my PC, I can pretty much run any of the games I own maxed out with top frame rate. when running fraps though, my frame rate always seems to be capped at about 30FPS, no matter what settings I use.

I don't know what sort of frame rate I am supposed to get with my system, so any help would be appreciated.

    my specs are:

    Windows 7 Professional 64bit
    2GB ATI RADEON™ HD 5970
    12GB KINGSTON HYPER-X TRI-DDR3 1600MHz, X.M.P
    Intel® Core™i7 Six Core Processor i7-970 (3.20GHz)

should I be expecting to be capped at 30ish FPS when recording with FRAPS?

When recording? Yes always, recording will reduce your Frames Per Second on a game, this is normal. If you get low FPS when you are not recording, then its a problem.

I understand there will be a drop in frame rate. but I'm trying to figure out what the frame rate drop should be for my system.

I've used everything from full screen at 60FPS, down to half screen at 30FPS and all combinations inbetween, still struggles to get above 30, no matter what I choose.

Does it go below 30 sometimes? Also, tell me some games you are recording with FRAPS.

yeah, it dips to about 20-25.

some of the games I have used it with mostly are minecraft, settler 6 and F1 2010. minecraft is not too bad, it usually records at about 45-50FPS, but that's probably because I can get about 200FPS anyway. F1 2010 & S6 are so low that it affects the playability.

    MC is usually between 150 & 180

Nope, this is normal, sorry. You can update your GPU, it might help the framerate go up a bit though. ATI Radeon

my GPU drivers are already up to date, so there's nothing really I can gain in that area.

oh well, thanks for the advice.
