I don't use them instead I use what you call a registry finder and I can call out what I want to find by the name of the drivers or product that needs to be completely uninstalled. The program will create a delete.reg file for the keys I want to remove and not depend on what a so called cleaner finds cause like said in previous posts commercial cleaners don't know whats valid and whats not. As far as what DeaconFrost said ATI which I have and hate do install a lot of regs that need to be cleaned out.

As long as you take the precaution of backing up your registry before using Ccleaner, I can't see that it will cause that much damage.

Quick boot into safe mode and restore the registry.

I'm with you. Even though I've used CCleaner on dozens of computers of the years without issue, I still create the undo file on my desktop each time. I've never had to use it, but it is one extra mouse click, so why not?

Im pretty much with pparks on the video driver issue.

I typically do not uninstall, or clean up for a driver update. Simply Update over the existing installation.
I do however, set all settings back to default for the update but thats it.

I've never had a issue going this route myself.

The only exception was when I was switching from ATI to Nvidia.
After uninstalling all ATI software, I deleted old Folders left behind and ATI reg. keys. (Driver Sweeper)

But now back to updating over top of existing drivers.
