Dual Core vs Hyperthread Technology
I'm looking for a new 17" laptop and find some with dual core and others with the
hyperthread. Which is considered the best.
Thanks

More cores means more resources for execution of tasks. Hyperthreading means existing cores are somewhat better utilized. So more cores is better.
I haven't looked at very recent laptops, but you might be able to find one with multiple-cores and HT. The biggest issue is that the apps in question would need to take advantage of the hardware.
What are your most intensive apps or intended usages for the laptop?
Hyperthreading is an Intel-only technology that is supposed to improve performance for mutlithreaded applications. Each physical core shows up as 2 CPUs in Windows. (AMD does not use hyperthreading.)
Real cores are better than virtual ones.
You can, however, buy a notebook with an Intel Core I7 CPU. It has 4 real cores, plus hyperthreading. 8 cores will be shown in the Windows Device Manager. Impress your friends.
