    mp3 player and text editor

I've recently come over from XP and miss notepad and wordpad. Any simple replacements for Windows 7?
Also, I would like a simple, fast mp3 player to set as my default player for mp3 and wave files so I don't have to open iTunes every time I want to listen to a clip. Suggestions?

For both of these programs, simple and quick opening is a requirement.

    Thank you!

Notepad and Wordpad are included with Win 7.

If for whatever reason you don't have them in your Start Menu, they are located at C:\Windows\System32.

Also, Windows Media Player isn't a bad alternative music player, it plays just about everything nowadays, except mkv's, and it's much less heavy than Itunes.

Although, a better alternative would probably be VLC, which is even more lightweight, and literally plays everything: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Thanks, I did not know Wordpad and Notepad were still included! Got them set up as my defaults for .txt and .rtf.
I am aware of VLC player. Would like something simpler, if possible, for just .mp3 and .wav files.

Take a look at Media Player Classic.

AHA!!! Got you into this fella, did I? It's to be LOVED!

As another alternative with less heft, I'd also suggest Winamp. I have Winamp installed as my own default associated "external music player" for MP3, WAV, FLAC, etc.., to be launched automatically from other programs or from Windows Explorer, etc.

My own skin preference is the simple but attractive "Winamp Modern" provided with the Winamp installation file.

But I use Jaangle as my music collection organizer/browser/player... when that's how I want to get started, and also play music while within the organizer.

Ended up installing IrfanVew and using it as my default media player as well. Works great!
