    Welcome to the Seven Forums
I would recommend Microsoft's Security Essentials Virus, Spyware & Malware Protection | Microsoft Security Essentials

Try the search logo above There was a very informative thread on this subject a couple of weeks ago.

Are you looking for a free program or paid version ? Personally I use Kaspersky Internet Security. Normally is available on Amazon or buy.com for about $20-25. Visit the Kaspersky.com site for a free 30 day trial.

I use ESET NOD32 antivirus on my machines. I have been very pleased with it and you can find a multi-user license on sale for about $30 every now and then on Amazon and Newegg.
Single user is around $30 so it's best to get the multi-user and split it with someone.

I also have Windows 7 and I run Avast Antivirus Pro. However, it's not very good against malware. For malware try Malwarebytes Free or Malware Fighter.

    Hello ziggie,

Why don't you try the free version of Avast {or whatever takes your fancy} see how it performs, make a decision & move on.

If / when changing to another AV be sure to use the appropriate uninstall application from the relevant Company.

I've run avast free at home for years with no issues.

As was stated before, it's crap against malware, but so is OfficeScan 10.5 which is what my clients run and costs a ton.

Bottom line is if you install the wrong program, you're going to get malware. No antivirus is going to stop that.

I would stick with free avast and free malwarebytes. As an IT guy they're my choice at home.

    I highly recommend MSE
It is free, light and effective
Avast is also a good alternative but I wouldn't recommend it as its drivers tends to causes Blue Screens
