I need a third party Hard Drive format tool

Hi y'all. Great community. I bought a new HDD. I have to use it for STORAGE. (caviar black 2tb). I have to format the HDD and I need a third part software for that (not W7 inside tool). I don't want the quick formatting. Could you please suggest me one? System W7x64 Hard Drive is connected with a docking station via E-Sata. Thank You In Advance.

Another vote for Partition Wizard - free and completely reliable. You might not need the boot CD if you can access your new disk from a running system (via USB or whatever).

Also, the windows "format" command only does a "quick" format if you give the /Q param.

    You're very welcome.

We have found through experience that you're better to download the 39 Mb ISO and burn it to a blank CD-R to create a bootable disc, which will then let you boot straight into the Partition Wizard interface.

This method has proved to be more reliable than just downloading PW and running it from your hard drive, but of course the choice is yours as to which method you use.

Before you can format, you need to create a partition first.

I have docking stations and used Windows Seven disk management to initialize and format WD caviar black drives. After creating an MBR type volume, when you select format as NTFS there's an option to do the slow format. My 1 TB drives took over an hour to format. (It's been awhile since I did one so I don't remember if it was 90 minutes or 2 hours, but it was definitely the slow format.)

I believe the disk management Gui varies with the flavor of Windows. You don't specify if you are running Home Premium, Pro, Ultimate or whatnot. But even in Home Premium there are command line tools to do it. (See DiskPart, format, etc.)

That said, I've head all around that Partition Wizard bootable CD is the way to go for a full featured free partition program. I have the CD myself. I just haven't had a reason to use it yet. :)

Under windows created one but it doesn't started yet. No idea. Maybe the e-sata controller is the problem. Now I go with boot mode. THX Professional*
