Strange colours in old old game played on windows 7

Today I remembered the name of a game I played when I was quite young, one of the first games I played. It is called the neverhood, and was around at the sort of time when windows 95 was the latest OS. I managed to find a copy today and was all excited to play this game, but the colours are really strange, certain shades are fluorescent pink, green, yellow, etc while other lighter shades are the colour they are meant to be. I can only assume this is because I am using the wrong colour depth or something, the problems were lessened when I set my colour depth to 16bit, but still not solved.

Am I right that colour depth is my problem? And how would I try 8bit colour?

I am on windows 7 pro, with a geforce 210 gpu.

As far as i know to run 8 bit games successfully you need to be running a 32bit OS what you could do since you have windows 7 Pro is try the game in XP Mode and see if that works other than that we will have to wait and see what others say. I remember Fallout 1 doing a retarded graphics glitch too although I had no luck in fixing that, so best of luck.

Well it would be worth mentioning I am on 64bit. I will see about windows xp mode, but its extremely limited in function, I would probably be better off trying it in virtualbox or something. But thanks, I shall look into it.

I believe some use DOSBox to play older games. Not a gamer myself :)

I tried DOSBox...it is rather confusing and im not exactly sure how to get it to work, but I shall keep trying.

    EDIT:
Got it to work, but apparently the game can't be run in DOS mode.
