VDS Basic Provider Error Code D@01010004

I too, have this error on my brand new Dell Laptop. It's an Inspiron 1750 running Win 7 64 bit, 4G Ram. To date Dell doesn't know what it is and is trying to track it down. I have not installed any clone software or Alcohol software. The laptop does show a partitioning of OEM, Recovery disk and C: OS. This was all preinstalled when I purchased the laptop. Interestingly enough, this error occurs when I first turn the laptop on and it happens twice in a row every time I boot up. It doesn't seem to effect use of the laptop, but it would be nice to know what is it and why is it happening.

I will be checking my desktop as I am just in the process of loading Win 7 Professional on that machine with a new hard drive and a second installed HDD.

I am also having this problem on my brand new installation. W7 on SSD and Vista on Raid 0. Error in W7 only. Appears to occur when I enter the disk manager.

Okay, got in touch with Dell and they didn't even know that it was an issue. My Dell tech took Windows 7 back to Windows default sounds (what does this have to do with it) because something I must have looked at or downloaded changed my sounds. Since then I have not gotten the error again.

This makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever, but it has been since my first post and no more errors.

    @ OopsMS

Your error code is different from the one we discuss on this thread. Glad it worked out for you in the end though.

As for the 490@01010004 code, it still appears even with the new Alcohol 120% v.2.0.0.1331 and SPTD 1.62. It's obviously things with virtual drives are messed up a little in Win 7, hope it doesn't take Win 8 to solve it...

I have a similar issue, everything working fine but then stopped this week. NVIDIA RAID with 3 partitions, Win-7 can only mount the first partition. Disk Management sees the other partitions but cannot make them active. Same RAID and partitions can see drives and mounts OK.

    Driving me nuts it is

VDS Basic Provider event ID 1 is logged on a Hyper-V guest operating system : The Virtual Disk Service (VDS) looks for the Location paths property of the controller. The value of this property is the path location of the disk. However, a virtual controller does not have this property.

Resolution: (as always with Microsoft) This event can be safely ignored.

I am using Windows 7x64, AVG Free 9.0 and Daemon Tools Lite.
    Here is the problem:
I open Computer Management and wait until the drives are loaded. In that same window when I click on Event Viewer (or anything else) the applet and any other open windows start flashing like a strobe light. If I click Computer Management again it will stop. Event Viewer records this as a critical error: VDS Basic Provider (Unexpected failure. Error code: 490@01010004) which is a Virtual Disk Service that seems to be correctly configured. It is most likely Daemon Tools Lite but it too is updated and works perfectly.
Daemon Tools responce to me was the same as Windows TechNet. The error can be safely ignored. That however, is incorrect because it does negatively affect my PC in other ways.
This problem only exists on my PC when my Anti Virus is installed. When I uninstall AVG Free 9.0 the problem and associated errors stop. I am hoping someone may have figured this out by now.
    Any help is appreciated, Fredrock
