    Jumanji:

Thanks for that. I just downloaded it. I'm always looking for imaging alternatives.

I haven't participated in anything from Giveawayoftheday for some time. Do you have any opinion on whether the downloads they offer are crippled in any non-obvious way---such as the app working only for a limited time, spyware, adware, unanticipated doodads or toolbars, etc etc???

Paragon has a good rep generally, but I am wondering if this package may be doctored in some way?

Can I download this for free now, put it on a USB, then when I get a new computer, put it on and install?

Sure, but why bother with a USB--just keep it on your HD like any other piece of data.

Yeh perhaps, I just thought the free period would go invalid after installing (not downloading) after the stated date.

I do not think these could in anyway be crippled or modified or doctored versions especially with Paragon. I had downloaded only some Digiarty sotware from GOTD and they all work fine.

The only negative aspect with GOTD is that most of the time they giveaway only crap.

Atleast one comment says that you can do that. Read the comments.

You may be right about that.

On reading through some of the 53 comments from other people on the download page, it appears you have to go through a registration process and get a serial number.

One guy says "You will need to keep MSI installation file for future use. It will be extracted from GAOD’s exe file, and this exe file can be used only today. Also you will need to get serial number today. With MSI installation and serial number you can reinstall System Backup anytime later."

So, I'm not sure if I will install it. I don't think I want to cough up an email address and go through a formal registration, when I already have 2 comparable products that seem to be working OK---Macrium and EaseUS--neither of which required registration.

Yes, if you have some programs already, you may not download it except for trying it out out of curiosity.

But useful for someone who is looking for a reliable one. And most of the time the Free Paragon software is available for straight download from their website with no strings attached. I haven't checked this one though. If and when I come across I shall mention it in this thread.

This seems to be a very strange version of Paragon Backup. I've been using Paragon Backup for quite a while on my Win7-64 system with excellent results (I currently have this version from GAOTD: Paragon Backup and Recovery™, version 10.0.17.13783 (04.08.11 ) Compact Edition) which I have used successfully many times. What I do is make a backup when I choose to, and I do not use any "automatic" features or have any continuously running Paragon services.

The System Backup 10.5 Special Addition is much different. After installing it starts a system task that wants to immediately create a system image and it says it won't do any other functions until that image is created. The only option is to cancel the immediate creation of the system image. So I did this, but the Paragon system task continued to run, showing its icon on the System Tray. Opening its window resulted in the same thing - it started to make a complete system image.

Well, I want to be the one who determines when and what I back up, so I uninstalled the whole thing. I do like the version of Paragon Backup I have and I will continue to use it instead. I've always been wary of software that installs background system tasks so I tend to keep these to a minimum. But I guess there are people out there who don't want to have to decide what or when to do backups, so for them this version might be a good choice.
