Hi everyone, I have read this thread with interest because I have a similar problem.

My iPhone 3GS has no problem connecting to the iTunes libraries on my Mac OSX and WinXP laptops.
I simply cannot get it to access the library on my Vista HTPC (wired).
I have set Win-firewall privileges for iTunes, opened up the required ports on my router, ensured that the same network is being used, checked that remotes are allowed in iTunes, shared my library, checked Bonjour, erased all previous remotes......nothing.

The setup goes fine, the iPhone is displayed in iTunes, the code is (immediately) accepted whereupon the iPhone starts connecting to the library but never succeeds.

Does anyone have any more ideas?

    Thanks!
    Paul.

Did you set a separate firewall rule for UDP 5353? The udp call is not logged as from "iTunes" so it doesn't get through the firewall if you have iTunes.exe set as a program as opposed to the port.

    Yes,
I opened TCP3689 and UDP5353 in both the Winfirewall and on the router.

    It's infuriating....

    Thanks for your reply!

Hi, piwikiwi, if you find a solution to your problem, please let me know!
I also tried everything in this thread, i:

    - Reinstalled Bonjour
    - Reinstalled iTunes
    - Told my firewall not to monitor traffic
    - Adjusted the (disabled) windows firewall to allow Bonjour on both TCP as UDP
    - Forwarded ports 3689TCP and 5353UDP to my PC
    - Simply opened ports 3689TCP and 5353UDP
    - Created a new user account to test in
    - forgot remotes
    - paired 1million times

None of these help. Every time i pair up, the code gets accepted no problem, my iphone 3gs cant find my PC after that though.

It works flawlessly on via my Macbook by the way, on the same network..

My windows 7 used to allow me to do it, then I wiped my system and reinstalled windows 7, and then of course installed and updated AVG (free virus program and firewall) and it disabled me being able to use the remote, I came to this page, and noticed the info about bonjour and firewalls, so I disabled avg firewall and low and behold....suddenly my iphone shows up, so i renabled my avg firewall and it asked if it should block it. I said no and now all fine :)

Just a quick thanks to ofixler ...Linksys 610N router - Check the option "Filter Multicast" on Security tab, in to ITunes, unselect "Look for remotes", said "OK", reselected "Look for remotes", said "OK" and up it popped.

Been driving me round the twist

In XP, I just resolved my problem with the iTunes Remote. Try going to "Windows Firewall With Advanced Security." Just type that into the XP or 7 search in the Start Menu.

Once there, double click "Inbound Rules" on the left, and double click "Bonjour" (I have two rules for Bonjour.........
    Help this helped.

I did this exact method to both of my bonjour services and still no love. it's crazy, it was working before we got this new router. and now it works on my friend's macbook but not my pc.

ok, I registered and now I'm here to add what I did to get my Apple Remote and itunes in Windows 7 working

perhaps someone who understands what all this means, more than I do, can get closer to a solution.

    relevant config:

Clear Wireless WiMax 4G adapter via USB
Belkin Wireless Router via LAN cable
    iTunes 9.2.1.5
iPhone 3GS w/ Apple Remote App

everything works as it should when:

internet sharing is turned OFF under network settings, for the Clear Wireless adapter
    -however-
I can't browse the internet/use my wireless broadband

so it's one or the other.

internet sharing turned on = no apple remote
internet sharing turned off = apple remote, but no internet.

I'm over Apple remote for now.

Apple - Support - Discussions - Bonjour doesn't work after upgrading to ...

talks about replacing mDNSResponder.exe with an older itunes version.

I haven't verified this workaround. Still searching for an older version of mDNSResponder.exe
