Yes, that's the same thing I was getting at... however even when it was disabled I recall it re-enabling itself when one or another Ashampoo program had an available update, eventually it caused me to turn my back on them and block their 'bulletins' as some of their other software installed the 'service channel' gizmo stealthily...

didn't realise that - you could sort of understand free software bombarding you with ads, but paid-for programs? inexcusable

however, i think we've hijacked the thread enough

I tend to use a free app called CDBurnerXP which is compatible with XP/Vista/7 (despite its name!)

CDBurnerXP: Free CD and DVD burning software

As mentioned above, its each to their own. This is just my own personal choice

Cyberlink Power2Go 7(140 MB) is a nice piece of software which can almost do all your burning task. But it is not free! The latest version Power2Go 8 is good it is a victim of bloatware(377 MB!) [That's why I leaved this product!]. Now I use cdrtfe - open source CD/DVD burning program. Proprietary software are more prone to bloatware. Yes there exists many free and open source CD/DVD burner. But the choice is up to you.
