Little free program that works well for me.

I have been using Filehippo Update Checker. Update Checker -
So far I like everything about it. Quick and easy and has been correct every time so far.

Did you manage to install it and get it to work ? On my pc's I can only use the portable version.

Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1

I've had it installed for years, no problem. Be aware, it will (maybe obviously) only alert to updates for programs that FileHippo lists. I also use SUMO, which is more comprehensive, just be sure to choose the installer without Relevant Knowledge, and pay attention to uncheck all the "extras" the installer wants to install. I find it worth it to have the program.

I once used one of those update checkers (don't remember the name). Every time some program's language pack was updated, I got an alert. It was kind of a pain. I got rid of it.

The only program that works on my pc is IE.

Old win XP program only works in Safe Mode on Win 7
An old windows program only runs in safe mode in Win 7, but worked fine in XP. The start up exe file looks for a set of files in a sub-directory, but it seems as if something in Win 7 is directing it to another directory. There is no ini file as far as I can see, and it works just fine in Win 7...
