speakwrite wont install - compatibility Windows 7

I'm trying to install software called 'speakwrite'. I received (legitimately) 3 setup files and an .ine file from my university IT department. Ihad to create a folder for them. The I have a CD which must be inserted each time I want to use the programme, which is an interactive language learning programme. I can't either run the three setup files or run any files (particularly the install.exe) on the CD as I get a message about compatibility. It appears that the programmewas desinged for a 16 bit system. I have run the compatibility troubleshooter but it still wont install. Can anyone help?

Many thanks

Windows 8.1 Pro RTM x64

Hi Corries1 and welcome to W7 Forums

Sorry, but it is not possible to install a 16-bit program on a 64-bit system.

You will have to contact your University IT Department to see if they have a version suitable for installation on 64-bit systems, or you will have to find a 32-bit system to install it on. Having said that, who publishes the program? There may be updates on the manufacturer's website.
