Hello Rolo, it is you.
Uninstall Java from control panel. You will have more success with this if instead you use Revo Uninstaller Free, and choose to uninstall java in advanced mode. Then install it from the website. |

@DustSailor
removed all traces of Java using RevoUninsaller. I assume you when you say "advanced" you mean i should use the advanced scanning feature after removal? I did that but was to scared to remove anything so just exited. Ran JavaRa and removed some stuff. Used CCleaner to remove any startup entries and then used CCleaners registry cleaner to remove any and only registrys related to java. I still can not install ![]() |

Rolo, check windows update and make sure you got everything installed. Then do a SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker (by Brink). Update your antivirus software (what is it by the way? Have you tried temporarily disabling it?). Then download java.
When you get the error and check for solutions online, what does it say? Also, what does it say when you expand "view problem details"? Perhaps some of your internet protection programs/lists are interfering with it's installation? Addons or tracking protections also could be causing this |

thanks for the help but I had to leave for the holiday and decided to simply re-image my disk. All is working fine now and I am pretty sure the culprit was my tinkering with CCleaner to remove registry files.

is it alright with you if I tell people you're my biological father?
![]() oh and to answer your question. I do not use active antivirus. I used to pay for Avira but I just use a program that locks my system so nothing can really run that isn't trusted. It's in beta and free and I can link you to it if you like. I do use virus scanners but only for on-demand stuff. I use Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, and Emsisoft all of them free versions. |

lol
You might give mention of that program here: What's the Best Anti-virus? But at the moment, I only use MSE because it is easy, and I'm not too worried about viruses at the moment. |

"Windows Explorer has stopped working" when attempting to copy This is sort of odd. I'm moving some folders from my laptop's internal HD to an external one (actually copy and delete, but close enough), but with one folder I can't get to first base. Just one. I haven't had a problem using the drag-and-drop method inside WE for any of the others. It doesn't... |

Annoying Java update message I've recently bought a new Windows 7 computer, and every two days or so I've been getting a message shortly after bootup that a new version of Java is available to be installed. As I don't use Java, I ignored it the first few times, but eventually I gave in and allowed it to install itself. ... |

Homegroup stopped working after Java 6 Update 17? I've been working on this all day. Yesterday, I installed the update (from the Java website, not through the updater in control panel) on two computers and homegroup stopped working. I did a system restore on both computers and homegroup started working. Then I updated Java again and homegroup... |
