I have now updated Mail, Photo Gallery and Movie Maker on Windows 7 also and all is well. It did ask for a reboot in Windows 7 but in Windows 8 RP it did not. Must be a Windows 8 thing.

updated on my pcs without a problem but
i have problem on netbook (i know its not powerful acer AOD250)
i get this error when i start windows movie maker (it was ok with older version)
ofcourse my netbook is slow and not good for video rendering but i used movie maker to record webcam images/videos.. it was slow but better than default program.
is there a way to turn system specs cheking when movie maker starts i know the limits on my pc but still for light use it should be ok to use windows movie maker and the coupling with gallery even dont allow to remove movie maker but have gallery (gallery works okay)
WLM Version 2012 (Build 16.4.3503.0728) fixes the Appdata\Local GUID garbage collection issue.
The files are created in the appropriate place - Appdata\Local\Temp but still requires manual cleanup.
Only problem I had with the update is that it removes the entries for Movie Maker and Photo Gallery from the HP Launch Box on the Taskbar for Windows 7 on their laptop. They must be using different names for the programs and this confuses the HP Launch Box. I wish I knew a way to get them back into the Launch Box... it was convenient with the Live programs being grouped together that way.
Has MS fixed Windows Live Photo Gallery?
I have WLPG Version 2009 (Build 14.0.8117.416).
I just reinstalled W7 and I discovered that if I redirected the "My ..." folders (Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos & Downloads) to the appropriate partitions, they show up in the "Libraries" (thus making them partially useful).
However, WLPG (like most MS programs) reads the "Libraries" and then adds everything to itself.
This means that it reads my video partition, issues a stack of errors and then crashes (apparently it can't cope with various common video extensions).
Since WLPG is automatically adding these folders they can't be removed.
Questions:
- Has this been fixed in the latest version?
- If it hasn't been fixed, what alternative programs do people recommend for mass image tagging?
New 16.4.3505.912 versions of Windows Essentials 2012 released. See first post for more details. :)
I figured something out that was excited about (is that sad?)
Start
All Programs
Windows Live Mail
Right Click
Properties
Compatibility
Run this program in Compatibility mode for Vista SP2.
Ok.
Now you go to Show Hidden Icons, right click the WLMail icon and the "Hide Window when minimized" option will come back. Now, Windows Live Mail will stay in your hidden thing, and will still be open. This option was disabled in the latest versions of WLMail. I hope this helps people that want to keep it open, but not take up room in the Taskbar

So:
- Is it possible to control the new version (16.4.3505.912)?
- Can it handle common video extensions?
Update
I installed the latest version:
- It doesn't crash when it loads my Video library.
- You still can't control what folders it loads though.
