install software or games without overwriting data already on computer

Hi I have a problem I am buying my brothers computer with windows 10 and it has all my data from my old hard drive all moved onto the computer. But I'm getting worried if I install old software/games that I had on my old laptop using the data to remember what i had will it overwrite the whole folder or will it allow me to just not overwrite the folder where my data has been saved and just add the data that is missing or will I just have to install the whole software/game again thanks

I would imagine you will need to reinstall the game programs from scratch as you have to match the program with the O/S and hardware.
You may possibly, maybe, perhaps, and with a lot of luck, be able to substitute the saved game files from the original after you have everything working properly.
    Good luck Art

I'm not sure of the exact problem, but it sounds like you're scared of overwriting data.
You can copy your old data into a new folder and not lose or overwrite the existing folder.

In most circumstances, a game or program can't be simply copied over; it has to be installed. The installer deposits certain files and folders in specific locations on the PC in order to function, and also adjusts the registry as necessary.

Now, after installing, most of the time you can find your old game save file and put it in the proper folder so you can still play your game from it.

Exactly. I've done this multiple times with success.
Google your game save location, (like 'Fallout 3 save location') then copy those files to a safe spot.
Then, install the game anew, and copy the save files back to the proper spot. You'll be able to play your old games saves on the new installation.

This might not work with ALL games, but it'll work with most.

FYI, this also work with most mobile (Android) games, too.

What about browser profiles (firefox, chrome, flock) will they not get overwritten as well when I install them again as I don't want to start them from scratch as well as I have a lot of stuff saved on them profiles I use
