I need to force IE7 on windows 7

    Hi,

I need to force/run IE 7 on windows 7 - I know IE 7 is not compatible with windows 7 but surely there is a way to force this to happen?

I have removed IE8 as per instructions here How to uninstall Internet Explorer 8 in Windows 7 (kinda) | Windows 7 Center

But now I want to install IE7 - I have downloaded IE 7 for winxp - but it wont allow me to install, saying its not supported on IE7.

I then downloaded Internet Explorer 7 optimized for Google Download Internet Explorer 7 optimized for Google - it got further than the above download but when I restart I cannot find it anywhere, and it doesnt seem to be able to run....

I need IE7 to test software which at this point in time has only been optimised for IE7....please help!

    Thanks

You could install XP Mode and install IE7 on there.

Best bet is XPM, or load up another VM and us it to run IE7. Can't go wrong with either one of these methods. :)

Not in any way that it will not damage Windows 7 as a side-effect. Some of IE's internal components are used for other Windows functions. If you were successful in replacing all the components of IE 8 with those from IE 7, you would most probably find that other things in Windows 7 would not work anymore. A good possibility is Explorer.

As others have said, you're only working option would be to use a Virtual solution and install an OS that doesn't bring IE 8 with it. But be aware that IE 8 is being pushed out by Windows Update. So, you would need to make sure that IE 7 in your Virtual OS doesn't get replaced by IE 8 -- or you're back to where you are now.

Didn't we have IE 7 before RC in early W7 beta? Can't remember what build it was.
