I'm getting a 2203 error when trying to update TurboTax 09 premier on a Win7 32 bit machine. TT installed correctly off a CD about a month ago, and the updates worked for the first week or so. I haven't worked on taxes since then, so when I restarted TT this week and it tried to update, I got the 2203. TT is blaming Carbonite and/or McAfee as the problems, but I run neither of those. I do run Backblaze so I've turned that off while updating. I've tried all the normal administrator stuff, etc. I called TT and they had me try updating in selective start up mode, but that didn't change the error. Now they're suggesting uninstalling and reinstalling the program. I've hesitated, because I was afraid I'd not be able to reinstall or get the initial updates, but they assured me I could get an online download that would work. So I took the jump to uninstall, and upon trying to uninstall, I get the same 2203 error code and it won't let me go further.

I've checked the permissions under Windows installer - all were checked in the system group - I tried checking all permissions under everyone, but that didn't change anything. I looked changes to make in the User folder, but couldn't find Windows installer there. Any further leads on where to look for it?

I'm on the phone waiting to talk to a TT tech person, but thought I'd asked here, since I'll probably be on hold another hour!

    Thanks for any ideas.

don't know if this helps anyone or not, but I had the same error 2203 when I tried to install microsoft viso on my windows 7 machine. I ended up going into the security settings for the temp files and user files listed above. nothing seemed out of place. just to be on the safe side, I reset the permissions on the two files by hitting the deny option then turning the allow options back on. applied the settings changes and tried the install again. walla!!! the install went through with out errors. sometimes OS's just need a reminder of their settings it seems.
