I haven't updated in a couple of years now (it's been so long I'm half afraid to). I don't go to the forums anymore because of the heavy handed, uneven moderation by moderators who think they are gods and some of the jerks that haunt the forums.

I know what you mean Jeannie. It has changed quite a bit in the last two years but should still be OK to update. In the worst case you may have to uninstall before the install and just point it at your library.

    Another vote for calibre.

(Btw, calibre is spelled with a lower case c.)
I didn't knew about that lower case spelling...: Caliber vs. calibre

@Lady, just uninstall previous without rebooting, it does keep your files safe in the calibre library with the new install.

What I'm afraid of is my data base and library is so old, a new version might not be able to read it or, as has happened in the past, it will update the old version, meaning it will no longer be compatible with the earlier version. If I didn't like the newest version, I would be SOL unless I went to the trouble to backup the old library and db and make an image of my C: drive just before updating. I've had other priorities lately.

These are completely FREE programs for Windows 7.
Are you familiar with Gizmo's Freeware, a categorized freeware directory? It's fantastic. Favorites are rated and reviewed, very selectively, and after many years of using the site I'm constantly surprised how it has remained non-commercial, non-bullshitty and intelligent.

Year after year, more and more freeware sites have turned into the worst kind of shitty clickfarms that barely list freeware at all (Softpedia) or/get flooded with dishonest trial versions and shareware that masquerade as true freeware to lure in users. I don't recall seeing any of this on Gizmo's.

Me too and for the ads the trusted bleeping computer is going down the gurgler in that respect

But there you go too much money to be had and probably more companies desperate to sell their products.

I've read Gizmo's for a long time. I even got a mention of one of mine on there one time(Topmost Toggle for setting a window stay on top.) The main drawback to it lately with Windows versions coming out left and right, is many of the categories are a year or two since last update. But often reader comments include some newer not so well known software. You can find a gem in the comments but it's more work.

Nice find Kado, there's quite a bit on the list that would be useful to me, but I'm going to have to watch if there's any conflict with the resident program updaters.

Have you been using it long?
