AllDup search for and remove duplicate files
AllDup find and remove duplicate files
![]() In the toolbar select "Groups" > "Expand All Groups" when previewing search results. ![]() From the GUI select "File Filter" then right click to add any desired file type. Use *.* if you want to compare ALL file types. ![]() It seems that AllDup is updated quite often. I noticed that if an update is applied then custom settings and custom file filters are lost. If you open %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\AllDup and backup the config.ini and config4.ini files you can easily restore your custom settings after an update has been applied. 100% free. Portable and installed versions are available. Download from developer's site: AllDup - Mp3 Duplicate Finder Software, Non-Duplicate File Finder ![]() AllDup is not just for mp3's. It can work with any defined file types. |

Personally I'm in the habit of moving certain personal files from one drive to another. If I ever restore a system image backup on one drive I can end up with duplicates if files that I had already moved to another drive get restored to their original location. Other times I've used file copy instead of cut/ paste. I'm only really interested in duplicates of personal files as it seems to be normal for some software to use duplicates of certain files in different directories and I leave those ones alone.

There is an excellent example of one reason why imaging is not suitable for backing up data files.

I see SIW still on the list. It doesn't look free to me. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place.
The portable apps old version download link seems to no longer work. I'm glad I've got a version since it is a good app. It probably should be deleted from the free list. |

For mjf and members about SIW:
It states on the End User License Agreement page that the Home Edition has been discontinued. Clicking on the freeware license link there will take you to the trial version page and that version is only good for 30days. If you look at the bottom of the developers page for the SIW Trial Version you will see: The Freeware SIW Home Edition has been discontinued. I have searched and found numerous examples that SIW has not been freeware for several years or more, One example from Gizmo's Freeware dated December 1st, 2013: Quote:
Note: SIW has fallen out of favor because the free version is no longer updated, has to upgrade to Pro version to work on Win8 and above systems, the standard installer contains OpenCandy and the free version is no longer present on their homesite.

Free Great Programs For Windows I scrolled down to the Macrium Reflect Free entry, clicked on the link, only to find it goes right to C/NET with no choice (at least I didn't see one) but to use their "agent" to download. I also tried Major Geeks and got the same "agent" trash. Does anyone know of a safe site to download... |

Great free copy/move app I really like this free app. (but find the latest beta version works better in 7. There is a paid pro version that adds little that the free version doesn't have. The free version basically has everything most users would need. One thing I really like about it is by default it gives you more... |
