Just a note that FreeCommander (which has been at version 2009.02b for many years) has recently released a new "FreeCommanderXE 2014" version.
Much enhanced GUI functionality (e.g. tabs, Favorites, flexible toolbar customization, etc.) so it looks more sleek, modern and up-to-date. And navigation is much slicker, including "Desktop" and "Network" as drives, along with choice of "Desktop", "Computer", or "Drive" as top-level in Tree view.
Don't know that there is much functional capability difference, as even the 2009 version was always a SUPERB substitute for Explorer and all things we wished had been in Explorer.
NOTE: the new INI file is incompatible with the old INI file, so you must re-customize the new program after installation from scratch. You can't just copy the old INI file over. It'll take a bit of experimentation to work through the new Settings dialog and learn where all the new options are located. Be sure to read the README that pops up after installation, to learn about the basic differences in this new version.
I've used FC for a long time. But it's my understanding not everything in XE is implemented yet. One example is FTP client. Even though I have XE when I use FC it's the previous version. I've set it up so many times with extenal programs etc. that I think I'm worn out. :) But the built in renamer is a real gem. Nice middle ground between Explorer and something very complex like Bulk Rename Utility.
FAT Sorter v1.0.4 is a free program to Sort the File Allocation Table of a USB drive.
The main reason for doing this is to force your MP3 player to play the files in order. It's simple to use and quick.
