Older Software Installation

Before I knew about Program Compatibility or Run as Administrator, I had installed programs such as Paintshop Pro 7.0 and had no problems.

Now I have gotten smarter and know about Program Compatibility or Run as Administrator, I installed Quicken 2003 using compatibility and administratir and it ran fine and all looked looked fine until I opened Windows Explorer. I could see every hard drive listed but every folder and file on every drive was greyed out.

I saw no way to fix it so I uninstalled Quicken 2003 and now Windows Explorer is back to normal.

Anyone have an idea what is happening or how to have this NOT happen?

I downloaded Virual PC and XP Mode, unfortunately the version of Win I am running is NOT RC. Far as I know the RC version is no longer available.

Why do you use programs that old as Quicken 2003?

Why use older programs? I live on a fixed income and the cost of a new pc and OS is minor comparied to the cost of new software. Also these programs do what I want them to do and some of the new software does NOT do what I want. Yes I know the mfg'er should put out new drivers to make older software works. That is not going to happen. I also sort of blame Microsoft (believe me I am a Windows person) for not including a way to run these older programs. Windows 7 is the first attempt I have seen MS try this and I think it is great.
