CCleaner
I have been using this for years on xp. I have seen on this forum where people love it for 7 and others who say it doesn't work well for 7. What's your thought? ( Sorry if this is in another thread)

Hello,
Have a look here for an old thread discussing registry cleaners and ccleaner:
Registry cleaner
Dave
You are right there are going to be many opinions on this. My opinion is most of it is very good but I would not use a registry cleaner. Leave the registry alone.

It's better than cancer but not as good as sex.
It can be useful, but don't expect miracles. I view it as a handy one or two-click way to clean out Temp folders and Temporary Internet Files. I personally do use the built-in registry cleaner but only because it has only removed very low-level entries. I doubt that it has any significant impact that I notice, though. If I didn't always have a fresh Image of my C: drive I wouldn't take the chance.
Generic advice -
If you do not have knowledge of the registry, then you would probably be better off leaving it alone, and definitely not placing blind trust in a program to do the job for you.
To advise anyone that a "Registry Cleaner" works, and that it will fix or speed up their machine {or all the other nonsense that is often propagated about these things} can mislead people.
Should you decide to go ahead -
Make sure you have
1.a current System Restore point created.
2.a recent "Back up" of your computer- preferably to an external HD.

I have never had any problems using it or ever known of any errors because of it but I was curious to know what people with vast more knowledge than me thought.
CCleaner in my honest opinion is a great tool to clean out the junk out of your personal browser and OS. I highly recommend using it and like others said it's best to stay away from the registry cleaner unless your absolutely sure that you know what your doing.
When I've used registry cleaner in the past I've always checked what it was removing. Mostly files left behind from un installs. But I have noticed tons of settings that allow people to destroy their pc.
