problem with Hijackthis on Windows 7 pro 64 bit

Hi all,
I'm using an administration account on windows 7 pro bit, when I 'm trying to "do a system scan"a window appear with:

"for some reason your system denied write access to Hosts file. If any hijack domains are in this file Hijackthis may not be able to fix this.
If that happens, you need to edit the file yourself. To do this, click start,Run and type:
notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\Hosts
and press enter. find the line(s) Hijackthis reports and delete them.
Save the file as 'hosts' with quotes and reboot."

The problems are: the file hosts it's empty:

I've tried to rename but system tell me only administrator can do (but I'm administrator), if I ignore this I've noted that it doesn't write a log file, it can't.
I don't use a proxy.

What I can do?

Hi mukkina,

HijackThis has got compatibility issues with Windows 7 64-bit. I had the same problems as you and had to uninstall it. As of now, it is open-source software; in other words, TrendMicro seems to have decided to drop HijackThis and stop working on its development.

Note: please be very careful when using such tools. Never remove/delete anything listed by those tools if you are not familiar with a computer's bowels Instead, save the log (usually a txt file which is automatically generated by the program after the scan) and have it evaluated by someone who knows exactly what they are doing. Deleting the wrong registry entry can result in a dead computer.

Thanks, Golden When my old Windows XP computer (now in computer heaven due to wear and tear) ended up with a nasty bug, I was told to install HijackThis; the log was checked out by a computer geek who really knew their stuff, and bye bye nasty bug But that was six or seven years ago, and malware has become sneakier than ever since then.
