Tried to install the 2.0.10 Pro version, but cannot start the program:
"Couldn't connect to NetLimiter 2 service. The RPC server is not listening"
When I try to start the Netlimiter service manually from Services, I get the following error:
"Windows could not start the NetLimiter on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 1"
Any ideas?
Did you restart after the install ? If not, the service wouldn't be running, and I doubt you'd have much luck manually starting it prior to a restart.
My guess is that in order for the Netlimiter service to propperly hook into the system, you'd need a restart.
If you've restarted and you're still getting this, then thats a bit of a problem.
In that case, restart again and see what happens, maybe try turning off UAC if its on.
Failing that, I don't know. I'm affraid my help on this one is pretty much going to run out at "have you tried turning it off and on again" :P
edit: this is all assuming the install went smootly, if it didnt, then try an un-install - restart - re-install - restart, or even a rollback to an earlier restore point and try again.
Yes, a FEW restarts solved the problem, and it's running smoothly now without blocking my internet explorer :)
Thanks for the help!
heh, well as long as its all working in the end, I guess we can call it a win
Hm, a new issue has appeared. Netlimiter 2.0.10 starts up perfectly and does not affect any other programs. In fact, it doesn't affect ANYTHING at all, since I cannot control my up and download speed . Nothing happens when I set the limits for my programs...
I'm running only the standard Windows 7 firewall/defender, have'n't installed any other firewall (yet).
I tried to start Netlimiter in "XP compatible mode" and as an administrator, but that didn't solve the problem. Any suggestions?
the whole problem here is that it (7) wont load the network packet monitoring/Capture driver. I dont know how in the blue world kojin got it to work, installing is not the problem. The only other trick, which I'm 99% still wont make a difference, is to install under safe mode. That way the service wont try to initialize itself on install of. Will have to wait till a reboot. Then at reboot, hit F8 and allow unsigned drivers.
but just as a disclaimer, always do a system restore point before doing any of this. Even installing in any mode, comp, safe or otherwise.
hmm, well now you've got me puzzled.
I'm not sure whats going on, but out of interest I just installed it on my laptop (Dell XPS M1530, also running 7100 x64) and met with success again.
It seems to be working just fine on that too. Monitoring, limiting and firewall aspects are all working as expected. Nothing fancy with the install, just put the install .exe in Vista SP2 compatability mode.
Either I'm all of a sudden extremely lucky, or theres some factor I'm overlooking. Though I've got no idea what it might be.
I'm running Windows 7 build 7100 x32 instead of x64, could that be the reason?
